77th Geneva International Motor Show

If you are going to visit one of the internationally accredited, large scale
auto shows next year, my suggestion is that you make it Geneva. Simply put,
no other auto show provides such varied international flavor, exotic
prototypes and let me be honest, beautiful women.
This sounds like a cliché being spewed from the mouth of a cheesy radio DJ,
but the show offers something for literally everyone. If you are in the
market for an electric mode of transportation, Greeny has you covered
offering a number of models all under 20 horsepower. If you are in search of
a rare, exclusive and scary fast road rocket, there is an exorbitant array
of dealers willing to suit your wildest velocity desires. The Lamborgini
Superleggera, Maserati Gran Turismo, Alfa Romeo Spider and Artega, which all
made their world debut here in Geneva, as well as the ultra limited edition
Spyker C12 Zagato would be a welcome addition to any collection.
The range of prototypes that are likely never to see production is diverse,
visually captivating and when at a loss for the most suitable adjectives,
awesome should do nicely. Bertone, Tramontana and Giugaro all cooked up a
veritable feast for the eyes with their latest creations.
The Audi A5 and its slightly swifter S5 counterpart, both made their
international debut to both acclaim and uncertainty. I am certain that no
one is suspicious of the appearance, quality or performance of either car,
but simply curious if Audi can succeed in an attempt to overthrow the M3 or
Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK 63.
Audis were elsewhere at the show as Cargraphic decided to take the
similarities between the TT and R8 to the next level. They took some of the
more noteworthy styling cues from the R8 and grafted them onto the TT coupe.
Upon catching wind of this exercise in automotive assimilation, I was aghast
and expected a total abomination. After seeing the car in person, I can go
on the record to say that although you will not find one in my driveway
anytime soon, I did find it to be visually fascinating and well assembled.
Since it is a truly international show, there were in fact many cars that I
would love to take home but am unable to because of potential legal
ramifications. Due to the more stringent vehicle safety legislation in North
America, certain corporations do not believe that it would be cost effective
to ensure their cars meet our standards. The process would be too expensive
in order to sell too few cars is their justification.
Unlike many North American auto shows, the aftermarket is well represented
and well received in Geneva. The likes of Mansory, Brabus, Lorinser, TechArt
and Rinnspeed all brought their 'A game' but also admitted to having many
tricks up their sleeves in the coming months. TechArt brought their
GTstreet, Brabus brought, among others, the record breaking Rocket which was
dressed in a stealth coat of black from top to bottom. After seeing (and
sitting in) the Mansory Rolls Royce, it is hard to imagine a bigger project,
literally and figuratively. Be sure to watch out for upcoming issues of MLE
to ensure you do not miss out on it or the incomparable combination of High
Performance and High Style!
